Illegal Alien Former Superintendent Caught with Gun Sentenced to Two Years, Will be Deported

Ian Andre Roberts, an illegal alien who had been posing as a school superintendent, has been sentenced after pleading guilty.
Roberts, from Guyana, was working as the Des Moines Public Schools superintendent at the time he was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in 2025. When he was arrested, he was “in possession of an illegal handgun, a hunting knife, and nearly $3,000 in cash,” former DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a social media post at the time.

Roberts has since pleaded guilty to federal immigration and weapons charges, and on Friday, he was sentenced to two years in prison, according to Iowa Public Radio.
“In a plea deal reached with prosecutors, Roberts admitted to lying about being a citizen when he was hired by the school district. He did not have authorization to work in the U.S. at that time. A judge issued an order to remove him from the country in 2024,” the outlet reported. “He also pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm without legal status in the U.S. Investigators found four guns in Roberts’ car and home after he was arrested, including a loaded handgun in his district-issued car.”
He will receive credit for time served, which may account for up to nine months of his sentence. Upon his release, he is expected to be deported back to his home country.
