The DNC Just Went Full DSA — and This Vote Proves It

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) usually makes headlines these days for being dead broke after Kamala Harris bled them dry during her 2024 presidential run. Ever since then, they've been doing nutty things like leveraging their Washington, D.C., headquarters building to pay their bills and keep their heads above water. 

As their money woes increase under the hapless leadership of DNC Chair Ken Martin, the party has grown reckless in its embrace of the far-left activists increasingly calling the shots. The party that couldn't face putting out an autopsy of its 2024 electoral failures is basically inviting a not-so-hostile takeover by the socialists.

This was made abundantly clear Saturday as the DNC met for its summer meeting in Austin, Texas, to work through various business items and determine the party policy positions as the November midterms inch closer.

One of the things the DNC was voting on was whether or not to abolish Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after their side took a few losses due their inability to follow lawful commands. The "abolish ICE" sentiment has been brewing ever since President Trump first got into office and strengthened the country's immigration policies.

On Saturday, the DNC voted to approve a nonbinding resolution urging congressional Democrats to craft legislation abolishing ICE. Here's some of the wording from the resolution:

“The DNC urges Democratic members of Congress to craft legislation abolishing ICE and enacting immigration reform that provides pathways to citizenship, protects workers, and ensures dignity for all impacted people.”

(In the true split-personality style of the DNC, they also voted to reform ICE. Someone please make it make sense.)

And here's a bit of the debate ahead of the vote, as reported by the @RNCResearch account on X:

  • Democrat Rep. Ro Khanna slanders law enforcement as "cruel and rogue" and calls to abolish ICE. Khanna cares more about criminal illegal aliens than he does about Americans.
  • Far-Left Democrat Rep. Lloyd Doggett thinks embracing policies like abolishing the police, prisons, and borders are a “path to victory.”
  • Far-Left Democrat Rep. Analilia Mejia thinks abolishing police, prisons, and borders is “an indicator of the vibrancy and wellness of our Democratic party.”

Martin is taking the "have his cake and eat to" approach with this post-vote comment: “Clearly, the one thing that unites Democrats, regardless of their position on reform versus abolish or whatever other ways to change what’s happening, is people believe that what ICE is doing right now — and CBP and the federal government — should stop. There has to be a better way.”

Immediately following the vote, the Republican National Committee (RNC) released a statement excoriating the DNC for making the Abolish ICE movement "a key pillar of their party’s platform." Here's RNC Chairman Joe Gruters:

“Democrats made it official: they care more about protecting violent illegal aliens than American families. While President Trump and Republicans are securing our border and standing with law enforcement, Democrats want to let dangerous illegal criminals run wild in our communities. This resolution is political suicide, and Democrats will pay for choosing open borders over public safety, border security, and backing the blue.”

Gruters may be onto something with that "political suicide" part. The DNC can try to split the difference by voting to both reform ICE and abolish it, but its growing socialist wing keeps forcing these ideas that once seemed fringe right into the party mainstream anyway.

At some point, Democrats will have to admit what the rest of us already know: the DSA is here and it's not going anywhere.

'Barbarians Are Inside the Gate': Mike Johnson Nails Insidious Threat of DSA's Gen Z Push

As speaker of the House, Mike Johnson (LA-04) is naturally keeping a close eye on the midterm elections. Republicans only have the slimmest of House majorities as it stands – the current split is 219R-212D (with four vacancies) – so the chamber could easily flip come November's elections. 

As a leader of the Republican Party, Johnson is keenly aware that Democrats are increasingly flirting with socialism, particularly among younger voters, and he nailed the problem during a Saturday interview on Kayleigh McEnany's Fox News show, Saturday in America.

When asked by McEnany if there are any examples of socialism actually working, Johnson said there aren't any; and, furthermore, the midterms this year are a "contrast election" and will come down to "common sense versus communism."

He continued:

Communism and this philosophy has led to the murder of more than 100 million people in the last century. It has never worked anywhere it’s been tried. And the reason is because it runs completely counter to human nature and to the principles that made our country the greatest nation in the history of the world.

We believe in individual freedom. We believe in limited government. We believe in free markets and free enterprise and the dignity of work, and all these things that have made America exceptional. They want to turn all of that upside down.

NEW: @SpeakerJohnson told me, "these insurgent left candidates are winning the Democrat primaries all across the country."

"The barbarians are inside the gate. It's very, very serious stuff."

Speaker Johnson explained that communism "begins with the wrong premise."

"Communism is anti-American. It's the opposite of our ideals. We're one nation under God."

"Communism begins with the premise that there is no God. The state is the god, effectively."

"It never works, and it ends in poverty, destruction, political violence, human suffering. That is the story of Communism."

"This election really does draw a contrast in a sharp way for the American people."

Johnson was adamant about one thing in particular: this threat is here, not in some future political world. "This is what we’re facing right now," the speaker told McEnany of socialism's creep into the Democrat Party.

In remarks earlier this month, Johnson drove the point home, decrying how badly the other side had botched things over the last ten years.

"Could we've imagined even 10 years ago, if somebody told us that on the two hundred and fiftieth anniversary of the greatest nation in the history of the world, in the midterm, in the fall of 2026, we'd be in a contest to determine whether we're going to maintain our constitutional republic — the greatest nation in history — or go down this dark, dangerous, deadly road to communism?" Johnson said.

Things are precarious, not just for the House GOP and its seat count, but for the country as a whole. Johnson’s point is that socialism’s appeal may be getting a shiny new look from a new generation of candidates, but the underlying ideology hasn’t changed one bit. And this is something young voters aren’t hearing nearly enough about.

It's not something Speaker Johnson intends to be quiet on, judging by his conclusion, "And so we are here as the Republican Party to stand on the founding principles of the greatest nation in the history of the world. It is our duty to do that, and we’re doing it on behalf of everybody."
