Maine House Speaker Ryan Fecteau, who represents the city of Biddeford, issued a statement regarding the incident via his Facebook page on Monday morning:
In his post on Facebook, Rep. Fecteau wrote "Fellow Biddeford residents and Mainers, this morning a shooting occurred in Biddeford. A person was killed. ICE was involved. State Police and the Department of Public Safety are now on scene to gather details and would expect the FBI to investigate as well. These are the details that I have at this time. I will provide further updates, as they are relayed to me."
Monday's news follows a similar incident in Houston, Texas, the week prior.
The FBI and the office of the state Attorney General are investigating the incident, according to Biddeford Police Chief JoAnn Fisk.
Troy Jackson, who is running for U.S. Senate, posted "I've been alerted to the fatal ICE shooting in Biddeford this morning. Our team is monitoring this situation very closely and will provide updates as we learn more. My heart is with Biddeford – and with all Mainers."
This is the scene at Pool St in Biddeford. Several surrounding streets are closed off. Since my arrival here there has been at least one verbal confrontation between residents over ICE tactics, which the police had to break up once it got close to getting physical. @WGME pic.twitter.com/UwP9oPuXts
