Trump Taps Special Envoy to Support US Landowners Burdened by Dems' Green Energy Mandates

By Becca Lower

Country superstar John Rich has been tapped by President Trump to serve as a Special Envoy for American Landowners, the Agriculture Department (USDA) announced in a press release this week.

Rich hopped on X on June 8 to tell fans how honored he was to serve as a conduit between the federal government and the long-silenced voices of farmers, ranchers, and other landowners.

The post, which ended with an emoji of an American flag, read:

President Trump has afforded me the great honor to serve in his administration as the "Special Envoy for American Landowners." In this role, I look forward to representing and advocating for landowners’ rights against any entity that chooses to harass or intimidate them in an effort to achieve goals contrary to those of the President. I look forward to defending our farmers and ranchers

Rich already seems aware of some of the issues with which many farmers and landowners are burdened in relation to the Left's wrongheaded green energy policies. For example, on June 7, he wrote on an X post by GOP gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman:

A fight for the ages is brewing over the destruction of Upstate New York’s farmland. I’ll put my boots on the ground there soon. @GovKathyHochul is allowing foreign entities to overrun American farmers with 50 square miles of Chinese solar panels. “Love Thy Neighbor” is now the official battle cry.

John Rich isn't the only Conservative in the music world, as RedState recently wrote about Jon Ondrasik of Five for Fighting's strong endorsement of his friend, former pro sports broadcaster Michele Tafoya, for U.S. Senate in Minnesota.

He's also been a regular feature in these pages. Rep. Tim Burchett (TN-02), as we wrote earlier in June, suggested his friend Rich as an alternative performer for the Freedom 250 show; when many of the artists - like Martina McBride - dropped out

The new Special Envoy also reacted to EPA (Environment Protection Agency) administrator and former Republican New York representative, Lee Zeldin's remarks on farmers in Upstate NY being pressured by Democrats in the blue state, including from Gov. Kathy Hochul (D), over a green energy mandate.

Zeldin said bureaucrats in Albany, and the governor, were in cahoots to infringe on New Yorkers' rights, stomping on local government control, stating in a video X post that by

[o]verriding local control, Albany politicians have massively ramped up their railroading of upstate communities, forcing them to take on the burden of far more solar farms on farmland. While in the southern tier this morning, I spoke out on behalf of the many upstate residents who and opinions ignored and rejected by Governor Hochul and her henchmen of power hungry, out of touch Albany bureaucrats.

Rich replied to Zeldin's post that he was "exactly right" to take on these leftists trying to bully the landowners in his state:

While Rich might have his hands full with a successful music career, hopefully he will be able to use his microphone and platform to give some pushback to the blue state leaders trying to cram green energy down farmers' and ranchers' throats.

Here's the official announcement from USDA Sec. Brooke Rollins:

The full announcement reads:

Secretary Rollins welcomes President Donald J. Trump’s appointment of @johnrich as Special Envoy for American Landowners.

As Special Envoy, Rich will serve as a strong advocate for America’s farmers, ranchers, and private landowners, helping ensure their rights are protected ard in Washington. He will work closely with USDA and stakeholders across the country to defend private property rights and address growing concerns from landowners facing pressure related to large-scale solar and wind development that impact productive farmland and rural communities.

America’s farmers and ranchers deserve a government that stands with them. USDA looks forward to working alongside John as we continue advancing President Trump’s commitment to protecting rural America and preserving our nation’s agricultural heritage.

Sec. Rollins said in a statement:

“America’s farmers, ranchers, and landowners are among the greatest stewards of our nation’s resources and the backbone of our rural communities

"President Trump understands that private property rights are fundamental to the American way of life. John Rich has long been a champion for rural America, and I look forward to working alongside him as we continue fighting for the people who feed, fuel, and clothe our nation.”

And here's the gracious way John Rich reacted, calling it an "honor":
