Fireworks Erupt After Sore Loser Al Green Tries Insulting Markwayne Mullin During DHS Hearing

By Sister Toldjah

Though it's pretty much impossible to keep on top of every single congressional race (unless you are a pollster or data guru), I have to say that I did not have longtime Democrat Rep. Al Green (TX-09) going down in defeat in the late-May Texas primary runoff.

Green, as RedState reported, ran in the 18th Congressional District this year after the 9th was redrawn to be more GOP-friendly. Thanks in part to his various Trump impeachment pushes, his Trump Derangement Syndrome affliction was solid, and he could play the Race Card with the best (worst) of them.

But the 18th already had a much younger Democrat in Congress, 38-year-old Christian Menefee, who won a special election runoff in January to replace deceased Congressman Sylvester Turner.  Since fresh blood seems to be what the party's voters want this election cycle, Green, 78, was shown the door in a blowout runoff victory for Menefee, with 69.3 percent of the vote compared to Green's 30.7 percent.

Though we'll (thankfully) no longer be subjected to Green's political stunts (which have gotten him thrown out of a joint congressional address and a State of the Union)  after his congressional term is up, apparently, he intends to go out with a bang, something that was observed during a House Committee on Homeland Security budget request hearing that took place on Wednesday.

Green came armed with his usual signs and slogans - including a video showing Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Markwayne Mullin trying to grab the "Black People Aren't Apes" sign Green brought to the February 2026 State of the Union address (when Mullin was still a senator).

At one point during his demonstration, Green appeared to call Mullin a "racist." When Mullin repeatedly demanded that he stop and said he would continue interrupting Green until the record was corrected, Green kept going on while telling Mullin to "shut up," which prompted Mullin - who said as a Native American that his own family had been subjected to racism - to get louder.

Watch:

At another point during the hearing, another Democrat, Rep. Tim Kennedy (NY-26), accused Mullin of running DHS "straight into the ground," and again, Mullin was having none of it:

“Your predecessor is no longer here, she disgraced this department, and it seems like you are following right in her footsteps, under your leadership—” Kennedy began as Mullin jumped in.

“That is not true. Don’t accuse me of something that’s not true,” Mullin said.

Kennedy continued by accusing DHS of denying food and medical care to detainees as he and Mullin talked over each other.

“You can say all you want, but don’t accuse me of something that’s not accurate. You can sit there and tell lies all day long and all it is is a lie. That’s a flat-out lie, and you know it’s a flat lie. That’s a lie,” said Mullin.

Watch:

I gotta say, I love Mullin's unwillingness to back down when insulted and especially when falsely being accused of racism. This is something we need to see more of from Republicans when the Race Card gets trotted out.

Plus, I mean, honestly, if I were these Democrats, I'd keep in mind what happened during the one hearing from 2023 when Mullin squared off with a union leader (the two are now friends) who had been keyboard warrioring about Mullin on X:

Afterward, Mullin, a former MMA fighter, simply stated on X that "In Oklahoma, if you run your mouth, you get called out. Period." Sounds about right.
