Semper Fi and No More DEI! JD Vance Shoots Guns, Receives Raucous Welcome From Fellow Marines at Quantico

By Teri Christoph

His fellow Marines had waited over two hours for Vice President JD Vance to arrive for a visit at Marine Corps Base Quantico in Virginia on Wednesday afternoon, but not one of them seemed to mind the inconvenience when the vice president finally took the stage to raucous applause. And he had a clear message for the troops assembled: the Trump administration has your back.

Vance had apparently been delayed in an Oval Office meeting but made his excuses to President Trump and hotfooted it down to Quantico on Marine Two. He arrived with one heck of an excuse note for his tardiness, noting the president had sent his best wishes from the White House: "We love ya, we're proud of ya and we're going to support you every single step of the way."

The vice president greeted his fellow Marines with a hearty "Oorah!" -- much to the delight of the crowd. He joked that, although he had never spent time at Quantico during his time of service, he was a "proud member of the E-4 mafia," and wanted to run for vice president because "it was time for the colonels and the generals to listen to the corporals for a change."

Cue the thunderous applause.

Vance talked of the importance of his time in the Marine Corps—he served from 2003 to 2007—and how it helped shape him into who he is today, recalling how a gunnery sergeant once saved him from making the biggest financial mistake of his life: buying a used Honda Civic at a 21 percent interest rate. It's that kind of comradery, he said, that makes ordinary young people into United States Marines.

Clearly at feeling quite at home at Quantico, the vice president then got right to the point of his visit, and that was to outline the Trump administration's plans to return the U.S. military to a "lethal" fighting force built on excellence, not quotas. He brought the fire.

No more quotas, no more ridiculous mumbo jumbo, no more diversity trainings.

We believe the real strength and the real diversity in the United States Marine Corps is that you all come from every walk of life, come from every corner of America, and you have got the strength and the purpose to win the nation's wars, and that is what the Marine Corps is going to do, just like it's done for damn near 250 years!

The United States Marine Corps will be celebrating its 250th birthday this November—an event the vice president joked was sure be a "sober, no alcohol" event—or, as Vance put it, "250 years of winning wars, 250 years of kicking ass and taking names." He then went on to tease a $1 trillion investment in the military, stating that the administration is determined to rebuild manufacturing in the United States to ensure that service members have the best "guns in their hands" and "equipment on their backs" if they are ever called to war.

Following his short remarks, the vice president made his way to the "chow hall," where he served lunch to his fellow Marines. He ended the visit, in his own words, by "shooting some guns" before making his way back to Washington, DC.
