Fake ‘Meat’ Products Linked to Depression
A new study has found that the consumption of fake “meat” products is linked to a significantly increased risk of depression.
The researchers behind the study raised the alarm after analyzing the eating habits of vegetarians.
The results of the study, led by Hana Navratilova, were published in the journal Food Frontiers.
The researchers found that vegetarians who consume “plant-based meat” alternatives have a 42% increased risk of depression compared to vegetarians who don’t eat them.
Researchers also found a link between “plant-based meat” and biomarkers of high blood pressure and inflammation, an immune response that, if unchecked, can cause various chronic health conditions.
The study analyzed data from the UK Biobank.
The researchers also found that those who eat fake “meat” had higher blood pressure and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels, a marker of inflammation.
They also had lower levels of apolipoprotein A, a protein associated with HDL, a “good” cholesterol.
“Plant-based meats” were once held up as the “future of food,” a health-, animal- and planet-friendly alternative to traditional meat.
However, manufacturers like Beyond and Impossible, which are both funded by Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, have seen their sales and share prices slump in recent years.
Consumer enthusiasm for these ersatz products has dried up and research has undermined their claims to be good for consumers and the planet.
Consumer research has shown that customers know plant-based alternatives are not better for them and that they don’t taste better than the real thing.
A 2021 survey of Australian men suggested that over 70 percent of them would rather die ten years sooner than give up eating meat.
After multiple rounds of layoffs last year, Impossible was forced to take out a full-page ad in The New York Times to rebuff claims their product is just a “fad.”
Meanwhile, Gates has been protecting his interests by calling on governments to crack down on the general public’s meat consumption in order to allegedly tackle “climate change.”
In particular, the Microsoft co-founder is targeting farmers, cattle ranchers, and beef production.
Gates argues that cows are causing “global warming” due to their methane “emissions.”
He is pushing for a crackdown on cows in order to comply with the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) “Net Zero” targets.
Among the suggestions put forward by Gates include giving cows “climate vaccines” and replacing real beef with fake lab-grown “meats.”
Conveniently, Gates is invested in companies that produce both vaccines and fake meat products.
“Cows are about 5% of global emissions, which is pretty unbelievable. Wild,” Gates claims.
“And if your goal is to get to [Net Zero], you don’t get to skip the cows or the steel or the cement or any of those big areas.
“So there’s a whole class of solutions of making meat without cows.”
However, Gates admits that the general public hasn’t been very willing to replace meat with his fake “food” products.
“It’s going through a little bit of a lull, but those companies, Impossible, Beyond, Memphis, and others, are pursuing that,” he explains.
“In terms of the cows, we actually have, we pursued many solutions.”
