U.S. Government Awards Moderna $176 Million Bird Flu Vaccine Contract

The U.S. government has granted Moderna $176 million to develop its bird flu vaccine amid rising concerns over the H5N1 virus outbreak in dairy cows and infections among dairy workers. The funds, provided by the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority, will support the late-stage development and testing of an mRNA-based vaccine for H5N1 avian influenza,  according to The Globe and Mail/Reuters . Moderna’s agreement with the government also includes options to prepare for future public health threats. Many of them lost everything. Some lost sons in the war. Most had their property seized by the crown. Many of their homes were looted – all for a cause they knew was right, but far from certain. We honor the country they created, but we should also remember that they sacrificed everything for an unknown future. The "LAST" PUB! - Independence Day Weekend of 4 July 2024

WELCOME to The "LAST" PUB! Happy Independence Day, and weekend holiday everyone! For several years now we have joyfully run The PUB each weekend for all of us to get together, share music, memes, etc, relax, and socialize.  Over the past couple months or more, I have watched The PUB significantly decline in participation and enjoyment, and have been reluctantly debating whether or not it is time to retire it. My conclusion is, this will be the last time we will have The PUB on a weekly basis. Instead, I will try to find other fun, engaging, and interesting threads to run on Friday evenings in its stead. Forty-four percent of respondents to a survey conducted by Redfield & Wilton Strategies on behalf of Newsweek between June 27 and 28 said they won't be traveling anywhere in the next three months, with a majority of 53 percent saying they would have gone on vacation had the cost of living been cheaper. The survey was run among 2,500 eligible U.S. voters. Among those who said they intend to travel abroad (17 percent), domestically (29 percent) or both (10 percent), a majority of 64 percent said their plans had been affected by the high cost of living. One of the few things Americans agree about in 2024 is that our political system is struggling. A  Pew Survey  last year found that positive views of many governmental and political institutions are at historic lows and that an increasing share of the public dislikes both political parties. From this frustration comes many suggested changes:  revising  or  ending  equal state representation in the Senate, creating  term limits  for the Supreme Court, and  abolishing  the Electoral College. Yet the reasons offered for such suggestions would represent a departure from the writings of The Federalist Papers, that collection of 85 essays penned by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay under the shared pseudonym Publius to promote the ratification of our Constitution. Cooke Because I still have a strong English accent, Independence Day tends to bring with it a whole host of good-natured jokes at my expense. “Didn’t we kick you out?” my friends like to ask. Others invite me to “send condolences to the Queen,” or inquire, sardonically, “Tell me: Are you rooting for the colonists, or for George III?” Of course, as those teasing me know, I am rooting for the colonists. And I am not just rooting for them then. I am rooting for them now, as well. What do I mean by that? I mean that to appreciate the Fourth of July properly is to comprehend that it is just as relevant today as it was back in 1776. I mean that in celebrating it as we do, we are re-committing ourselves to a set of practical principles that transcend time, place and, yes, even my noticeably odd way of pronouncing “tomato.” I mean that there is a good reason that downtrodden people in places as far away as Ukraine and Taiwan look to Thomas Jefferson’s immortal  Declaration

At the GOP’s Missouri state convention in Springfield, Trump supporting members of the GOP took over and prevented RINOs in the state from setting the agenda and the delegates for the RNC.  This was reported on May 4.
